womens services

Women face diverse medical needs that change throughout each phase of life. Routine check-ups, joyous moments of pregnancy and childbirth, life changes and potentially threatening diseases…all require special medical expertise. We deliver that level of skilled care—with compassion and understanding—close to home.

Comprehensive women's services at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital begin with skilled OB/GYN physicians and trained registered nurses. However, we don't stop there. We have resource centers, a certified Menopause Clinician, a dedicated Women's Imaging Center and we maintain facilities equipped for everything from wellness care to surgery. When the time comes to deliver your baby, our Mother and Baby Unit provides labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care all in the same room and nurtures healthy-beginnings in a family-centered environment.

Women's Imaging Center
The Women's Imaging Center is a separate area devoted solely to women. Beautifully decorated with a private waiting area, dressing room and consultation room, the center offers:

  • Digital mammograms – high-resolution, 3-dimensional images
  • Bone density test – x-rays to diagnose osteoporosis
  • Education Resource room – learn to perform a breast self exam, use a life-like model to learn what a lump feels like, watch educational DVDs and help yourself to pamphlets
  • Consultations with radiologist – one-on-one to discuss your results

For more information, follow the link to the Women's Imaging Center web page or call 828-766-1630.

Childbirth Education
Blue Ridge Regional Hospital prepares you for delivery and infant care with extensive childbirth education classes. Certified Childbirth Educators teach expecting mothers about the stages of pregnancy, preparation for childbirth, the process of labor and delivery, and infant safety.

Follow the link to our Mother and Baby web page to learn more about Childbirth Education.

Obstetrical Care
Women in the region rely on quality obstetrical services from conception through post-partum care. Designed with a focus on comfort and family-centered services, all rooms in our Mother and Baby Unit are private and spacious so they accommodate medical equipment, medical staff, family and friends. Experience labor and delivery in our home-like environment:

  • Dedicated LDRP rooms: No moving from one unit to another; labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care (LDRP) are all provided in the same room.
  • Rooming-in – babies room-in with moms; nursery care is an option
  • Open visitation is encouraged

Gynecological Care
Board certified physicians deliver skilled gynecological care beginning in the teenage years and continuing throughout each phase of life. We value preventive care to maintain long-term wellness; we're also highly experienced in treating all issues related to women's health. You can count on medical care, education and physicians taking the time to talk with you about your concerns. Complete services available include:

  • Annual exams
  • PAP smears
  • Gardasil vaccine
    Birth control and counseling
  • Testing for sexually transmitted diseases
  • Breast health
  • Infertility and preconception counseling
  • Menopause management and treatment

Together with medical treatment of women's health issues, our OB/GYN physicians understand the importance of teaching about maintaining health, self-care and making sure questions are answered. Don't hesitate to seek their advice and treatment for any type of medical condition, such as:

  • Urinary tract infections

Women face tough decisions about treatment options and their safety. This is when you need the services of a qualified physician who is a certified Menopause Clinician.

To schedule an appointment with our certified Menopause Clinician, call 828-765-0170.

Diagnostic procedures are supplied by our team of physicians and radiologists, and outpatient chemotherapy is available at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. However, specialized cancer management is normally referred to private oncology practices in Asheville, NC or otherwise as may be appropriate. While the physicians in these practices are credentialed and experienced, they are not employed by Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.
